The Learning pathway

The Learning pathway is the structured course that sits beside free typing. It works through a vocabulary list, one word at a time, so a student builds words as well as speed. Reach it from the Learning pathway button under the typing area.

How it is laid out

The words are grouped into tiers that climb from first words through to expert words. Each tier has a pace to beat, shown on its header, and a count of how many of its words are done. Tapping a word opens its lesson.

Inside a lesson

The word is shown with its meaning, and a button reads it aloud. Then come two stages:

  1. Type the word itself, a few times, cleanly.
  2. Type each of the word's example sentences, cleanly, at least once.

A row of pips at the top of the lesson tracks exactly those steps, which is why retyping the same sentence over and over never finishes a word.

What counts as clean

A clean go means no backspaces and nothing left wrong, typed at or above the tier's pace. Sentences also need high accuracy. If a go is not clean the screen says why, for example that it was under the tier pace, and offers another attempt. Nothing is lost by trying again.

When a word is mastered

Mastering a word is permanent, and it is added to the student's own practice pool. Choosing My words on the typing screen then builds runs from the words they have learned, which keeps the meanings warm. Mastering a word also earns XP.

Progress

A bar at the top of the pathway reads how many words have been mastered in all, and there is a board for it on the leaderboard screen.
