Mastering a skill and tracking progress

Every skill tile carries a small row of dots. Each question answered correctly first time fills one dot. Fill the row and the skill is mastered, and it stays mastered for good.

What fills a dot, and what empties the row

  • Only the first attempt at a question can fill a dot. Getting a repeat or a comeback right keeps the run going but does not add to it, so a skill cannot be mastered by answering the same question over and over.
  • A wrong answer empties the row and the run starts again. Nothing already mastered is ever taken away.
  • In Maths and Thinking a question must be fully correct. A Reading section counts when most of its marks are earned, because one section holds several questions.

Where progress is shown

  • The subject rail at the top of every screen shows mastered against total for each subject.
  • The Home screen has a bar reading how many skills are mastered in all, plus tiles for XP, the day streak and skills in progress.
  • Each skill tile shows its dots and a lifetime accuracy figure for that skill.
  • Insights shows a Readiness band, questions answered recently, accuracy, average time per question, weak areas and a list of recent answers.

The streak

The flame at the top of the screen counts days in a row with at least one correct answer. Missing a day ends it, and nothing else about the account changes.

Writing

Writing work is coached rather than marked out of a total, so it has no dots and is not counted in the skills mastered figure.
