Q&A is the part of the forum for one question at a time: a student asks what they are stuck on, anyone on the forum can answer, and a teacher can mark the answer that is right. Open Q&A from the rail, or the bar along the bottom on a phone, and press Ask a question.
Asking
- Write a Question title: one clear sentence saying what you are stuck on. While you type, similar questions appear under Already asked?. They open in a new tab, so your draft stays where it is.
- Choose a Subject and a Year.
- Under Your question, write it out and show what you have tried.
$...$writes maths, and a picture can be added. - If it helps, attach working out paper, or link one of your bookmarked questions from a test or LearningHub so everyone sees exactly the question you mean. A linked question opens with its answer hidden until the reader chooses to reveal it.
- Press Post question.
There is a daily limit on new questions for each account, and the page says so when it is reached.
Answers and votes
Every question and every answer has an up arrow and a down arrow. Up means helpful, down means not helpful, and pressing your arrow again takes the vote back. A teacher's vote counts for more than a student's. The number shown is the overall score and never drops below zero. An answer that has been voted well down is folded away as low rated, with a tap to show it.
Answers are listed teacher-verified first, then the most helpful.
Teacher-verified and Answered
A teacher can press Verify answer on an answer they have checked. It is then labelled Teacher-verified and sits at the top. A question counts as Answered once it has a teacher-verified answer, or an answer that other students have voted up enough; until then it is Open.
The person who asked no longer picks a best answer, and nothing in the forum earns XP.
Finding questions
The list can be filtered by subject, year and status, searched, and sorted by Newest, Top or Unanswered. Opening a question shows it with all its answers, and the box at the bottom adds yours.
Being told about answers
New answers appear on the bell. A teacher answering your question, or verifying your answer, is also emailed unless you turn that off. See Forum emails and notifications.
