Everything that happens to you in the forum lands on the bell: Notifications in the forum, Alerts on a phone, and the red dot on the Forum pill. Some of it is also emailed, and which kinds is your choice in the forum's Settings.
Emailed unless you turn it off
- Direct messages: a teacher sends you a message. Teachers are emailed in the same way when a student writes to them.
- Teacher verified my answer: a teacher marks one of your Q&A answers as verified.
- A teacher answered my question: a teacher answers or comments on your Q&A question.
Off unless you turn it on
- Any answer to my question
- Mentions
- Replies to your messages and threads
- Announcements: new posts in the announcement channels
When the emails come
A direct message is emailed within moments. Several messages close together in one conversation arrive as one email that points to the conversation.
Everything else is gathered into one daily summary email around 5pm, listing what you have not already read in the forum. Anything read in the forum first is not emailed, and nothing is emailed twice.
No forum email is sent between 8pm and 7am. A direct message that arrives overnight is emailed in the morning.
Emails go to the email address on the account.
Changing them
- In the forum, open Settings (You on a phone).
- Under Email, switch each kind on or off. It saves straight away.
- Forum emails at the top turns every forum email off at once.
The Forum emails switch is the same setting as the Notifications tick box in Edit Profile, so turning off one turns off the other, along with the optional Test Academy updates. The bell keeps working whatever the email settings are.
