Testy is Test Academy's study coach, built into the site. He knows the student's own work, the platform and the exams, and he lives in two places that do two different jobs.
The dock, in the corner of a page
On most pages a round Testy button sits in the bottom right corner. Tap it and a small panel opens on top of the page. This Testy is a companion: he knows which page the student is on and answers questions about it, about homework, about what to do next and about how anything on the site works. On the dashboard and the classroom home he is opened from the Ask Testy button on his card instead, and the panel fills the screen. The forum has no Testy button, so nothing covers the chat; Testy is one click away on any other page. Links and buttons in the panel open in a new tab, so the page underneath stays just as it was.
Testy's own page
The Testy pill in the top navigation opens his own page. This Testy is a tutor. He teaches through questions he writes for the student, diagrams he draws, mental maths drills, the WritingHub Gym for building writing skills, and a writing studio that marks a whole piece and pins notes beside the lines they are about. A small picture Testy draws to explain something sits right in his message; tap or click it to see it bigger. A picture to work from goes on the stage beside the chat instead. Some pictures move in steps, such as jumps along a number line or a clock hand moving on. A new one plays once by itself, with a short line under each step; the play button watches it again, and the bars beside it go straight to any step. With reduced motion turned on in the device settings, the steps change without moving and wait for the student to step through.
What Testy will not do
- He will not hand over an answer to a test that has not been marked.
- He cannot change a mark, a booking or a payment. When something needs a person he passes it to the Test Academy team.
- He is an AI and he can be wrong, which every screen says underneath the message box. Important answers are worth checking.
Who has which one
The dock is available to students throughout the site. Testy's own page is for Year 3 to Year 6 accounts and for the OC, Selective and NAPLAN streams. A younger student has the dock only, and it stays free for them.
