How it works

Inside a week of the class.

Ten weeks a term. The sections alternate week to week, so all four are covered in depth and then covered again.

1
Every week, 3.5 hours
Inside a Selective Mastery session

Half the session is a real test. The other half is the teacher working through it, question by question, with eight students in the room.

  • Reading45 minutes, 17 questions
  • Mathematical Reasoning40 minutes, 35 questions
Arrival
Log in and settle

Students take a computer in the testing lab and log in to their Test Academy account.

About 1.25 hours, timed
Two fresh tests under exam conditions

Both papers are written new for the batch. They aim at the weaknesses the class has been showing and at the question types that keep turning up in the real test.

15 minutes, break
Snack, while the teachers read the results

The teachers look at which questions the group got wrong, which ones ate the clock, and what mistake keeps coming back. Then they print each student a personal booklet: what was picked, what was right, the time spent on every question, and space underneath to redo it at home.

About 2 hours, review
Every question, on the whiteboard

The teacher works through the paper, teaches the method behind each question type, and checks that all eight students can run it themselves. The booklet goes home as the record of it.

After the session
Feedback, and homework chosen for your child

The teacher speaks to you at pickup and leaves written feedback on the dashboard. Homework is named, not general: these mock tests, or this question type on the LearningHub.

2
Between sessions
The work carries on at home

Enrolment includes the whole platform, so the weakness found on Tuesday can be practised on Wednesday.

  • Mock tests in the real format, marked instantly, with worked explanations, percentiles and timing against the cohort.
  • WritingHub marks a piece against the rubric, highlights what to change, and sets exercises off the writing your child just did.
  • LearningHub drills one skill or one question type at a time, so practice goes where the class says it should.
  • The class forum takes questions straight to the teacher who taught the lesson.
  • A progress review each term with that teacher, and live score trends on your parent dashboard in the meantime.

Good test material. Helps to prepare for the real test. Recommended for all.

great tests. the worked solutions are good, especially for maths because it is handwritten and detailed so my son can learn by himself. thinking skills can get hard.

Steven Handel

Nice tests and good online platform, recommend.

Pedram Mohammadi

Really nice tests. But wow, some of the thinking skills were really hard for me and my daughter. The math questions at the end of tests are also hard and creative.

Theresa Cooke

Hard to find websites that offer quality selective tests for a reasonable price so I'm really glad I found this one. My son loves the layout of the website and the formatting makes the content more enjoyable for him.

Adam Nguyen

This is great. I am a student in year 6 and now I feel very confident.

Parthib Hasnat

Quality test material at an affordable price. I bought Selective test modules for my son. The questions are a good mix of various styles and difficulty levels. A detailed explanation of answers is a big plus. Highly recommended.

Bought this recently for the selective test coming soon and my child is super happy with the questions and the explanations. The platform is amazing to use.

Test academy is a great package, it helped my sibling a lot with preparing for the selective tests. Many other places are too expensive and don't have quality material, or some don't even have answers. But when I found Test Academy, my problems were solved. Answers to all the questions, which was beneficial because there were a lot of difficult and challenging questions, so the solutions helped my sister understand how to answer the question. Great Value for money, and very satisfied with the test material

Testacademy is excellent. Very resourceful and helpful for my kid. It builds confidence in his selective test. He enjoys practising tests and writing task. There are many coaching centres and online test packs. But Test Academy provides questions way similar to Selective test and their team have motto of each and every kid should have access to it.

After my son had a very bad experience on another platform, I decided to try test academy and he is very happy now. The platform is well designed and fast, questions are very interesting, and the explanations are really helpful. I think the tests are a bit more difficult than the past NSW selective papers, but this is a good thing because my son will be more prepared for the real thing. The writing system is also amazing, my son is actually starting to enjoy writing now and the feedback has helped him improve. Totally worth the price!

Laetitia Fishcer

Excellent platform to help kids for selective exam. The team understands what exactly a student requires to prepare and provide as much as related straight forward assistance via platform.

Trupti Kotadia

Excellent platform, interface and questions for selective prep. Solutions are simple and easy to understand in steps. Great for building confidence in children, my child’s confidence has improved. I really liked the feedback provided and model writing provided for writing. Thanks Arya for your kindness and generosity.. I wish the whole team all the best!

We’re so proud of our daughter’s progress in thinking skills where she used to struggle. Thanks to the support from test academy, she went into the selective test feeling prepared and walked out confident in her performance. The improvement has been amazing, huge thanks to the team for helping her reach this point!

The platform really helped my son get into the top writing band in selective tests 2025. Amazing team who took our feedback on the platform and also implemented possible ones. Big shout out the entire crew!

We’ve had such a positive experience with Test Academy Tutoring run by Arya and Aryan. The flexiclasses have been a particularly helpful addition, offering that extra layer of support to further enhance both our kids’ capacities. The flexible nature of the program means they can focus on areas where progress is needed, while still maintaining consistency with the theory being covered. What really stands out is the dedication and care Arya and Aryan put into every session. They create an encouraging environment where the kids feel motivated and supported, and it’s clear how much thought and effort goes into their approach. We’re so grateful for the way they nurture learning while ensuring steady progress is made.

We are so happy with test academy for selective test preparation. The teacher is incredible and our daughter actually say she looks forward to class. The technology they use is advanced, nothing like anything I have seen. Online student platform is very useful for her practice. Other big tutoring centres we went to for long time before here are way behind. She has made major improvements in her weakest sections and is more confident now. Thank you.

Test Academy’s teachers are compassionate, knowledgeable, and creative. My daughter’s confidence in maths grew significantly in just one term, and her second school report clearly showed a meaningful improvement in her mathematical skills. My son, even though he is in kindergarten and not usually a fan of school, absolutely loves his classes at Test Academy and remembers what he learns there. We are very grateful for the supportive and inspiring environment they create for children.

Simin Gouran

A very effective platform for Studies. It provides clear insights into a student’s performance, including strengths, gaps, and trends, along with helpful explanations for incorrect answers. Highly appreciated.

Jibran Sabir

The way they teach is so fun and engaging, I learn so quickly and I actually look forward to my classes.

Armin Zah

The best selective test tutors we've had and the test academy student platform is super fun and useful.

Idin Zah

My son is extremely engaged preparing for selective at testacademy and actually looks forward to class. So many places have qualified teachers but his teacher here has the fancy resume and can actually teach complex topics very clearly. Great culture and always feel updated as a parent.

Adrian Nader

Test Academy helped me familiarise myself with the selective tests format, and their teaching style is very patient and understandable.

I honestly think Test Academy is one of the most underrated tutoring centres in Sydney. Arya and Aryan explain concepts really well, and it’s made a big difference for my child. They’re very patient, take the time to address all our questions, and always provide helpful feedback. Their software is also excellent and keeps getting better.

My daughter completed all four terms of selective school test preparation using materials from two different institutions. Despite that, she still lacked confidence and struggled to perform well. A friend recommended Test Academy, and we decided to try a trial class. From the very first session, we were impressed. In the initial weeks, my daughter faced significant challenges. She often felt overwhelmed, struggled to choose the correct answers, and was scoring fewer than 10 correct responses. Writing tasks were also difficult for her. However, within a few weeks, we began to see real improvement. In just 1.5 months, she progressed to achieving nearly 100% correct answers and showed remarkable improvement in her writing skills. What truly sets Test Academy apart is their LearningHub platform. It provides outstanding support by offering questions ranging from basic to advanced levels, ensuring students fully understand each concept. The system identifies weak areas, corrects mistakes, and guides students step by step until they gain confidence. This structured approach made a huge difference for my daughter. Another key strength is Arya, who I believe leads Test Academy. His dedication is exceptional. He provides almost 24/7 support, responds quickly, and always follows up—even if a call is missed. He also guided us through school selection after the test, which was incredibly helpful. After the exam, my daughter said that all the questions felt easy except for one in mathematics. She was able to complete each subject within 20 minutes and felt confident throughout the test. This transformation is entirely due to Test Academy and their excellent platform. I strongly recommend Test Academy for selective school test preparation. This is not a promotional review—this is our genuine experience.

Wow! What an amazing college with incredibly patient and gifted instructors. Their entire approach is highly focused on selective school test readiness. We started with a full-day “real world” mock test, which gave us an excellent benchmark of where our son stood just one term before the actual selective test. We then enrolled him in their online course, which included weekly practice tests and detailed debrief sessions covering time management, test strategies, and identifying areas where he needed extra support. His instructor, Aryan, was especially engaging and motivating — to the point where our son became genuinely self-driven and took real ownership of his preparation. Over just 12 weeks, we saw a massive improvement in his internal test scores and overall confidence. By test day, he walked into the exam room calm, prepared, and ready to give it his best shot. Having such a targeted and tactical program made a huge difference, and we’re extremely happy with the way Test Academy supported and guided him throughout the process. Fingers crossed for great results!

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Aryan and the team at Test Academy for their incredible support throughout Ayansh's Selective High school placement. A huge factor in his success was having access to Test Academy's practice platform-hands down the best preparation tool available. Thanks to Aryan's strategic guidance and the Academy's top-tier resources, Ayansh cleared every hurdle and secured a direct offer to his dream school [Sydney Boys]! We couldn't have asked for a better partner in this journey. Highly recommended to any parent and student aiming for selective success.

From my daughter’s words: The selective lessons have really helped me improve. This year, I was able to get into selective, and I thank Test Academy for that. Not only have they pushed me to do harder questions but they will always explain the answer very clearly so that the whole class understands and learns a faster way to solve.

“The secret weapon every student should have” Dear Test Academy, This letter is to show my gratitude towards you, for helping me with my high school admissions. You have given me excellent academic adventures to go on even when I didn't feel confident at the beginning. This progress was beyond insane, so instead of keeping this joy all to myself, I thought "Why not share it with the people who were instrumental in my success?" I really hope you do read this... because trust me, you need to. It will make you as happy as I am! It all started last year, when I started working on my Selective exam. At this point I was terrified of the examination process as well as all the competition.I didn't know where to begin. It all felt very overwhelming. My dad asked one of his friends, whose son got into Selective, for some ideas. They said "Oh, I know the perfect website for you guys", and recommended Test Academy. Now, Test Academy, I'm not trying to be rude to you guys, but at first, I was as petrified as a cat! I wouldn't even come near it, since I was too afraid that I might get a bad score. However, that didn't stop my parents from encouraging me to try them out. So I thought, "Maybe I'll just go for it. My parents paid for the tests, and I don't wanna disappoint them," I started with scores around 35%, and 40%, and I would cry because of the terrible scores. I thought that I would do very badly in my actual exams, but I kept going. Your explanations and answers for the test questions really helped me out, and taught me along the way. As I continued, something surprising happened, I realised that the more I did them, the higher my scores were getting. My parents were right all this time. Eventually, I stopped feeling afraid to take on the challenges that you have to offer. Now, I apologize in advance if this letter is too long, but I have excellent news to share with you. I sat some ACER and AAS exams, to try and win a scholarship. A scholarship is not a joke. It's an amazing thing to achieve. When I was doing the exams though, I went from thinking in the worst case scenario to a positive mindset. Because of this, the news was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I got the results from three schools, Tara Anglican, Santa Sabina, and Northholm Grammar. At Tara, I was in the top four per cent in almost everything. In Santa Sabina, I did exceptionally well, but the best outcome was from Northholm Grammar. I was ecstatic beyond words, because a scholarship was something I have always wanted. Now, just remember this. The reason why I got this is because of you. You were the ones who made me smarter, who made me go through the real exam vibe, and made me grow to where I stand today. I hope this boosts your reputation, and when I grow older, I will definitely make sure to tell my younger friends about you. I still have my upcoming Selective Exam, but I feel very confident that I will do well in the test. Thank you for everything you have done for me. Yours sincerely, Akshaya Valluri PS: When the results for the selective examinations came in, I was on the wait-list for my top two choices, but got an offer from Penrith. Mind you, I was spending upwards of 20 hours a week on my music, so I had relatively very little time to focus on the Selective exam. Having "Test Academy" in my toolkit allowed me to make the best use of what little time I had, and the practice was just so invaluable, that the results from the exam were very very positive. I recommend to everyone, irrespective of where you get your tutoring or training, sign up for Test Academy's practice tests and be religious about practicing and you will notice excellent progress in your scores. There are upwards of 200 exams in total and at the end of it all, you will be like a well trained warrior.

Rajesh & Akshaya Valluri

We had a really positive experience with Test Academy’s OC online test platform. We purchased the online test package for our son, and we’re very happy to share that he received an OC offer! 🎉 He really enjoyed doing the mock tests and found the platform easy to use, with good-quality questions. It helped him get familiar with the OC test format, question types and time management, while also building his confidence. We’re very happy with the support the platform provided during his preparation and would definitely recommend it to other parents preparing for the OC test.

Questions

Things parents ask before they book.

When you enrol, our system guides you through a digital consultation on the student dashboard. We gather information about your child's strengths, weaknesses, and entry goals to complete their student profile — so that teaching is personalised from day one and we can make better recommendations as teachers.

If your child misses a session, they can attend any other available session that week — simply email us in advance to notify. Depending on availability, they may also be able to join an online session instead.

The Test Academy dashboard is your central hub. Parents can track improvement over time, view deep test analytics including percentiles and timing data, and review personalised teacher feedback after every session.

All tutors are selective high school graduates with a 98+ ATAR who have at least a few years of teaching experience. They are undertaking or have completed Law or STEM degrees at USyd or UNSW.

Yes — switching between online and in-person attendance is possible with notice to our admin team. We're happy to accommodate flexibility where we can.

Yes. During online enrolment, we offer a multi-term discount for families who are committed to ongoing preparation — just as we're committed to helping your child thrive.

Returning students who re-enrol for non-multi-term courses receive a 5% discount — permanently. Once you're part of the Test Academy family, you're always looked after.

Yes. A 5% sibling discount is provided upon request when two or more students from the same family are joining, or if an existing sibling is already enrolled with us.

That's great — they're already getting support, which is the most important thing. Many of our students actually come from other tutoring centres when they're looking for something more tailored, better technology and student engagement, and more personalised attention from top-quality teachers.

Ideally from Term 1 or Term 2 of Year 5. That said, we regularly help students make significant jumps in marks across all sections with just one term of preparation.

We offer a free first session subject to availability. That said, most parents commit knowing they can leave within the first two weeks — and almost all end up staying.

Just stationery, a snack, and water. Everything else — from printed booklets and worksheets to computers — is provided by us. We don't do BYOD.

Writing is marked using our proprietary WritingHub system. It objectively follows prompt-specific marking rubrics faster and more consistently than any human marker, delivering highly specific feedback, suggestions for improvement, and tailored writing exercises for immediate correction and growth.

After the Selective Test program, our students are so advanced that from mid-Term 2 to Term 4 we accelerate them through all of Year 7 high school mathematics. They continue to stay an entire year ahead with us — giving them the ultimate confidence and advantage throughout high school and placing them in a strong position for HSC success.

All the details

Selective test preparation in Parramatta and online, explained properly.

The long version for parents who read everything before they book selective school tutoring. Facts about the test come from the NSW Department of Education and are current as at September 2026.

When to start preparing for the selective test

There is no official start line, only the calendar. Applications for a selective high school open in early November of Year 5 and close in February of Year 6, and the Selective High School Placement Test is sat in May of Year 6. For 2027 entry the test was on 1 and 2 May 2026 and outcomes went out on 19 August 2026. A family that starts weekly selective test tutoring at the beginning of Year 5 gets a bit over twelve months of preparation, which is enough to teach every section properly and still leave a term for full timed papers. Starting in Term 3 or 4 of Year 5 works too; the class is set up so a student who joins later spends more of the term on the sections they are weakest in. A Year 6 student joining in Term 1 is doing revision under time pressure rather than learning, and that is the term where the weekly mock tests earn their keep.

How the test is built and scored

Four sections, each worth 25 per cent of the result: Reading (45 minutes, 17 questions), Mathematical Reasoning (40 minutes, 35 questions), Thinking Skills (40 minutes, 40 questions) and Writing (30 minutes, one typed task). Everything but the writing is multiple choice, the test is computer based, and a student sits it on one day, mostly at a local high school acting as a test centre. The writing section counts exactly as much as the maths, which surprises a lot of families. The department's placement procedures describe placement on performance in the test; there is no school assessment component in the current procedures. Thinking Skills is the section parents ask about most: the department says the questions do not test the school curriculum, which is why naming and practising each question type matters so much more than general revision. The placement procedures and the department's free practice tests are public, and the department does not endorse any coaching course, ours included.

Marks, bands and what you will actually be told

You will not see a score or a rank. The performance report places your child in one of four bands for each section: top 10 per cent, next 15 per cent, next 25 per cent, or the lowest 50 per cent. There are no set minimum entry scores for any school, and the department stopped publishing cut-offs, so a figure quoted for James Ruse or Sydney Boys on a forum is somebody's estimate. You can nominate up to three selective high schools in order of preference, change the order until the cut-off date in the cycle (5 June in 2026), and an offer only comes from the highest choice your child qualifies for. Outcomes are an offer, a reserve list place, an offer plus a higher-choice reserve, or unsuccessful. A reserve band from A to F is a rough guide to how long students in that position waited the year before, and offers keep moving until the end of Term 1 of Year 7 as families decline places.

What a week in the Selective Mastery Class looks like

One 3.5 hour session a week in a class of eight, in Parramatta or online. The session starts with two fresh timed tests on the platform, alternating each week between Reading with Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills with Writing, so every section is sat under the clock every fortnight. While the students take a break, the tutor reads the live analytics for the room and prints a personalised booklet for each child showing what they chose, what was right, and how long each question took. The rest of the session is a review at the whiteboard taught from those booklets, so the teaching goes where the marks were actually lost. The teacher leaves notes on the parent dashboard and sets mock tests or LearningHub practice for the week. Between sessions the student has the full platform: timed mock tests with worked solutions and percentiles, WritingHub marking against a rubric, and LearningHub practice by question type. If a week is missed, the tests are sat at home and the booklet is printed for the next session, so nothing is skipped.

Parramatta, Western Sydney and online

The centre is at Suite 107, 18-20 Ross Street, Parramatta, a short walk from the station and the interchange, with families coming from Harris Park, Westmead, Granville, Rosehill, North Parramatta and further out across Western Sydney. Girraween High School, a co-educational fully selective school, is close by and is often one of the three choices for local families. The online class runs the same session at the same time with the same teacher; the tests are sat on the platform either way, and the personalised booklet is sent as a PDF at the break so the review is worked on paper at home too. Fees are $122.50 a week, billed by the term at $35 an hour, plus a small materials fee shown before you pay. A $10 deposit holds a place, and a free trial class is available before you commit to anything.

How competitive it really is

There are 4,338 Year 7 places across 17 fully selective high schools, 27 partially selective high schools, 4 agricultural high schools and Aurora College. The department's own guidance says about a quarter of the students who sit the test receive a selective high school place. Up to 20 per cent of places are held under the Equity Placement Model, and from the 2027 intake each co-educational school has a set number of places for girls and for boys. In 2026, 60 per cent of our own students received an offer or a reserve band, 40 per cent with an offer. That is the number we hold ourselves to, and it comes from teaching every concept to mastery, not from any promise about a particular school.
