Practice test questions are written and checked by people, and every so often one still gets through with a wrong answer, a confusing wording or a typo. If that has happened, we would like to know. Every report is read by Test Academy staff.
How to report a question
- Open the paper from Dashboard, then Practice, on the Results & Review tab, and go to the question.
- Press Show explanation and read it through. Most of what looks like a mistake is settled here.
- At the foot of the explanation, press Report a mistake.
- Tick the line confirming the explanation has been read and there still seems to be a mistake, then press Continue.
- Choose what looks wrong, describe it in a sentence or two, and press Send report.
The button sits inside the explanation on purpose, so the explanation has been opened before anything can be sent. A question can be reported once per student, and the button then reads You reported this question.
What happens next
The report goes to staff, who look at the question themselves and fix it if it needs fixing. Nothing happens automatically: a practice test question is part of a numbered paper that students sit against each other, so it is only ever changed or replaced by a person. When a question is replaced, a new one of the same type takes its place in the paper and the marks already given stand. Nobody is written back to individually about the outcome.
The paper and the mark are untouched either way. Reporting a question does not change a score, and it does not put a result under review.
Please only report real mistakes
Disagreeing with an answer is not the same as finding a mistake, and the explanation is there to settle that first. Reporting questions that turn out to be correct, again and again, can cost a student the ability to report at all, which is a shame for the times it matters. Staff can lift that later.
Where the button does not appear
Only on a student's own finished paper, only on Mathematics and Thinking Skills questions, and only where the question has an explanation. Reading and Writing questions do not have it: a writing mark is a judgement against a rubric rather than a right or wrong answer, and a reading question belongs to a passage that cannot be swapped out on its own. For those, ask a tutor or raise it with Testy. Staff reading somebody else's paper do not see it either. LearningHub has its own version of this, which works a little differently.
