WritingHub is the writing section of LearningHub. It is for building the craft between exams, so its feedback is about what to do next rather than a mark out of anything.
What is in it
- Write, guided writing tasks grouped by genre: narrative, persuasive, descriptive, recount, exposition, news report, letter and diary, and creative stimulus.
- Improve, short drills on one aspect at a time: ideas, structure, sentence craft, openings, description, dialogue, voice and planning.
- Fix it, proofreading and editing practice.
- A history of what has been written, and a progress view of which aspects are strengthening.
How a guided write goes
- Pick a task. The card carries a one line brief and a target length.
- Plan it in the boxes provided and ask for a check on the plan before writing.
- Write. The draft saves as it goes.
- Submit, read the feedback, and write a second draft against it if you want one.
How it differs from a writing test
A writing practice paper is a timed sitting, marked against the exam rubric, and it lands on Results & Review with a score. WritingHub is untimed, is about improvement rather than a score, and lets a piece be planned, revised and rewritten. Most families use both: WritingHub during the week, a timed paper to see where it has landed.
Who can use it
WritingHub is open to students preparing for the Selective test and to Year 3 to Year 6 students with a current class enrolment. Students on the Opportunity Class pathway have the rest of LearningHub but no Writing section yet.
